Background

Stories pertaining to the ethical use and protection of valuable resources such as land, trees, minerals, wildlife and water, and the responsibility of citizens and private entities to act as stewards of these resources for the longterm good of society. In particular, this collection focuses on the ahupuaʻa system of technologies the ancient Hawaiians effectively implemented as a means of sustainably supporting a large civilization while living in harmony with the natural world, and efforts to combine this ancient technology and the wisdom inherent within it with modern technology and science to better balance the needs of humans with the preservation of the environment.
