Here’s a heads up on the City and County of Honolulu’s holiday schedule

HONOLULU—It’s 2011 over the weekend. Here’s the skinny on what’s up with the City and County of Honolulu’s services.

Trash will not be picked up on New Year’s Day. Communities that use the 3-cart collection system, with once-a-week refuse and once-a-week recycling pickup, are asked to leave their gray carts curbside to be collected on Monday or Tuesday. Leave gray carts at the curb until its serviced.

Recycling days that fall on Saturday will not be picked up, so hold mixed recyclables and green waste for the next scheduled pickup date. For those on twice-a-week refuse collection whose pickup day falls on New Year’s Day, hold your items for the next scheduled pickup.

All City Convenience Centers, Transfer Stations, H-POWER, and Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill will be closed. Christmas Day and New Year’s Day are the only two holidays refuse workers do not pick up trash.

City government offices will be closed Friday, December 31 in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday.

Emergency ambulance, fire, lifeguard, and police services will be provided.

The People’s Open Markets will be open on December 31 and closed on January 1, 2011.

Handi-Van service will operate on its weekend schedule on January 1.

City buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on January 1.

All satellite city halls will be closed on December 31 and January 1.

The Blaisdell box office will be closed on January 1 for the holiday and January 3 for furlough.

The Botanical gardens will be open on December 31 and closed on January 1.

The Honolulu Zoo will be open on December 31 and January 1.

The municipal golf courses are all open on December 31. For January 1: Ala Wai, Ewa Villages, and Ted Makalena will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for 18 holes and 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for 9 holes. Kahuku is open 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. And Pali and West Loch will be closed.

The following traffic and parking regulations will be in effect on Friday:

* On-street parking will be free, except for the meters on Kalakaua Avenue along Kapiolani Park.

* Parking will be permitted in tow-away zones where it is allowed on holidays.

* There will be no coning of commuter traffic lanes.

* Traffic signals at Kalakaua Avenue and Kapiolani will be three-phase to permit mauka-bound traffic to turn left onto Kapiolani Boulevard.

* Parking in municipal lots will not be free.
