September 28: Hawaii Kai Neighborhood Board holding candidates forum

HAWAII KAI—The Hawaii Kai Neighborhood Board is holding a candidates forum on Tuesday, September 28 for candidates in Senate Districts 8 and 25, House District 18, and all Oahu Board of Education races.

After a brief business meeting at 7:00 p.m., the legislative races forum will run from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., followed by the BOE forum from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Candidates and the public are welcome between 6:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. to meet and talk before and after the forum at Hahaione Elementary School, 595 Pepeekeo Street.

The invited candidates who will be on the November 2 ballots are:

•  Senate District 8: Larry Price (D) and Sam Slom (R); Senate District 25: Virginia Enos (R) and Pohai Ryan (D); House District 18: Chris Baron (R) and Mark Hashem (D).

•  Board of Education, Oahu At-Large: Melanie Bailey, Kim Coco Iwamoto, Roger Takabayashi, Brian Yamane, Randall Yee, and Pamela Young; Windward District: Valzey Freitas and John Penebacker; Leeward District (special election): James Arola, Maralyn Kurshals, and David O’Neal.

Beth-Ann Kozlovich, Hawaii Public Radio’s executive producer of talk shows and host of “Town Square,” will serve as moderator.

The meeting and candidates forum will be cablecast on Olelo Channel 54 each Tuesday in October at 9:00 p.m. Additional cablecasts are possible.
