On February 8, at the first hearing of Hawaii’s Human Trafficking Bill, SB 2045, many Pacific Alliance to Stop Slavery (P.A.S.S.) members and supporters eloquently testified for the need for a human trafficking state law. We clearly outnumbered the opposition. However, our opposition -- the Attorney General Mark Bennett, the City Prosecutor Peter Carlisle, and the Public Defenders office -- submitted suggestions to completely alter or to gut the bill.
